Mountains, Snow, Mountain Biking, Hobbits & Nessie

6th June we headed to Fort Williams - as always we had amazing views on the drive there
the drive there...there are little houses built into the side of it. Imagine living there!

When we got there we opened the boot of the car and realised our laundry detergent had spilt all over our pillows. The WHOLE bottle. We had to rinse them and then dry them out of the tent like this.... although they did end up smelling quite nice haha

our set up

The caravan park on the river.. The midgies were really bad but it was worth it to watch the sunset over the river and mountains. Go on Matts blog to have a look at one of the amazing photos he took - the rocks with the sun about to set behind the mountain.

Matt's newly purchased walking poles!
Climbing Ben Nevis..........! At some points I was just like WHY ISN'T THIS OVER YET! The climb was so steep and relentless. But once we got to the top and trekked through all the snow it was all worth it! It was an amazing feeling to have finished and the remains of the observatory at the top were pretty cool.

Spot Matt?

Hiking up the snow... not appreciating the view at all at this point!! I do now though :P

8th June - World Cup for Downhill Mountain Biking. We realised that we had actually come to the area at the same time as the mountain biking world championships and decided we should check it out! All the mountain biking crew had descended on our caravan park by then and pretty much taken over the town as well. So we caught the shuttle bus there and it was a pretty big event!

I have no explanation for this.

HOBBITING!! We stayed in a little tube called the hobbit! It was literally on Loch Ness... but unfortunately I didn't see the Loch Ness Monster, but we did buy a Nessie sticker for the car!

Matt's reading material :P

Red Wine at Dinner in Fort Augusta

EDINBURGH - We stayed at a hostel called St Christophers Inn. The beds were good and even though we were in a room of 14 people there weren't any snorers. The showers and toilets weren't amazing and the wifi didn't work so it didn't end up getting the nod from us - but it was an awesome location. We were near starbucks so just sat there when we needed wifi!

My love :)

We had to tip him... it was too good.

Out the front of the castle - they are building the stadium for Edinburgh Military Tattoo (apparently a big deal?)

We went to an amazing little bar called Whistlebinkies! It was an open mic night geared towards acoustic guitarists. This swedish guy travelling through got up to play and sing, then the locals joined in. It was an awesome place!

The next night we went to a traditional Scottish pub and listened to a group of locals playing all sorts of instruments including the accordion. Halfway through a Japanese TV company burst through the doors and started filming. They were so funny to watch - trying Whiskey and pretending to like it. Also i'm pretty sure Matt was filmed for a while when he was getting our drinks. Thats it for Scotland!! Will update soon on Newcastle and then on to Ireland...
